Holden Evening Prayer: On Saturday, June 3 at the 5pm service, Bethany will be using the Holden Evening Prayer liturgy. Holden Village has invited congregations/ministries around the globe to participate in this beloved liturgy that day, blending our voices in praise of God and in unity with all God’s people.

Thank You Bethany Choir!: A big thank you to the Bethany choir and it’s director, Sylvia Cauter, for another wonderful year of excellent special music. Sylvia has it set up that there will be special music throughout the summer as well, with individuals and small groups. We are grateful for her faithful leadership, and for the dedication and excellence of our choir. See the newsletter for more.

A Baby Shower for Babies All Over the World: The Rachel Circle is throwing a baby shower! Come support Lutheran World Relief by bringing a gift for the baby care kits that are distributed all over the world. Clothing and blankets must be new or gently used. A list of the items needed can be found in the narthex and on the hallway bulletin. Everyone, young and old, is invited to the shower which will be held on June 10th at 2:30pm in the Fellowship Hall. There will be food and beverages, along with a game or two. And there will be cake! Please RSVP on the signup sheet so the Rachel Circle can plan the right amount of snacks and cake.

It’s a Tailgate Party!: On Sunday, June 11, Bethany will honor our faithful Preschool teachers, especially those who have served long tenures and are retiring from their regular teaching roles. We will also welcome our new Preschool Director, Julianne Haggart. Following worship we will have a cookout/tailgate party in honor of Jim Rohrscheib’s service as the Bethany Treasurer. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided. You are invited to bring side dishes or desserts to accompany this picnic lunch. In the spirit of “tailgating”, you are invited to wear the colors of your favorite sports team.

End of the Preschool Year: The Bethany Lutheran Preschool year is coming to an end. As is tradition, each class has a brief end of the year celebration. The schedule is as follows: Fireflies – Tuesday, June 13th 6-7pm; Bumblebees – Wednesday, June 14th 5-5:45pm; Grasshoppers - Wednesday, June 14th 6:30-7:30pm.

Celebration of Life: The family of Margot Jacobs invites Bethany members to a celebration of her life on Tuesday, June 20 at noon. The celebration will take place at Faye Bainbridge Park in the hillside picnic shelter near the exit. All are welcome to attend.

Community Peace Rally: A peace rally has been organized by Rev. Susan Griggs (of Tracyton, UMC) on June 4 on the steps of the Poulsbo City Hall at 5:00pm. Rev Griggs and others have been working with Latino families of students who are experiencing racial injustice at North Kitsap Schools. Several Poulsbo faith communities are involved and have invited all faith communities in Kitsap county to support North Kitsap Hispanic and BIPOC families in their request for an open community conversation with local officials and police.

Office of Compline: The Men’s Compline Choir will sing the Office of Compline on Sunday, June 4, 7:00pm at St Cecilia’s Church. Compline, also called Night Prayer, is the last of the traditional daily services sung by monastic communities and dates back to at least the 8th century.

Office of Evensong: Women’s Schola of Bainbridge Island will sing the Office of Evensong at 6 pm on Sunday, June 11, at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church.  Come hear traditional plainsong, anthems, psalms, and chants, and let the grace of sung prayer refresh you for the week to come.

Altar Flowers: The altar flowers this weekend are given by Jennie and Dennis Harris in celebration of family.

Senior Sunday: Bethany will honor our graduating seniors, William Bang-Knudsen and Anna Tuinukuafe, this Sunday, May 28, at the 10am worship service.

 

Pentecost: We celebrate Pentecost this Sunday, May 28. Pentecost commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit on the disciples following the crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus. Be sure to wear red this weekend, the color that represents the Holy Spirit.

A Baby Shower for Babies All Over the World: The Rachel Circle is throwing a baby shower! Come support Lutheran World Relief by bringing a gift for the baby care kits that are distributed all over the world. We recently blessed 63 baby care kits put together by the Rachel Circle and then shipped to Lutheran World Relief. The baby shower will include games, prizes, refreshments and fun as we gather to replenish the baby kit supplies. The shower takes place in the fellowship hall at 2:30 on June 10. More information, including the list of items needed for the kits can be found on the hallway bulletin board. Rachel Circle would like to take this opportunity to thank the congregation for their generous donations to the shipping costs of the quilts and kits. Over $600 was raised which Bethany sends to Lutheran World Relief who then ships quilts and kits all over the world.

It’s a Tailgate Party!: On Sunday, June 11, Bethany will be holding a tailgate party following worship, with all the “fixins”. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided. We invite Bethany members to provide the sides (chips, salads, beans, etc.). This will be an occasion to honor Jim Rohrscheib for the many years of faithful service he has given to the Bethany community in serving as our treasurer. Feel free to wear sports gear – Mariners, Sounders, Kraken, Packers (oops Seahawks)! There will be no 5pm service on Saturday, June 10 so we can all celebrate and thank Jim together. 

Celebrating our Preschool and Sunday School Teachers: On Sunday, June 11 we will celebrate and thank our wonderful Preschool and Sunday School teachers at the 10am service. We will take this opportunity to especially thank retiring Preschool teachers Rachel Running and Valerie Johnson. We will also thank former Preschool Director Katie Drovdahl and welcome new Preschool Director Julianne Haggart.

Martha and Mary Auction: The 2023 Generations of Care virtual auction in support of Martha and Mary is happening now! The 2023 auction is an on-line bidding extravaganza of gift cards & gift certificates for dining, experiences, and services, along with some fantastic pieces of art and other winning items. Proceeds from the event will benefit the completion of the new Martha and Mary Child Care and Learning Center. Currently Martha and Mary has 500 children on their waitlist so the need is great. The auction will culminate on May 30, 2023. To register for the auction, visit the Martha and Mary website  (www.MarthaandMary.org) so you can join in the fun as the bidding begins continues.
