Bethany Council Approves 17 Endowment Fund Grants!
    At its meeting on June 9, Bethany’s Council approved all 17 Endowment Fund Grant applications received by the Endowment Committee. The total amount awarded will be $25,044 to be paid from the Mission Endowment Fund. The awards include local agencies such as Helpline House, North Kitsap Fishline House, Young Life, as well as organizations that have an historical connection to Bethany such as the Church of Steadfast Love, Nyer Urness Home (part of Compass Housing Alliance), and Holden Village. The awards also include organizations providing support around the world, such as Lutheran World Relief, Operation Bootstrap Africa, and the United Lutheran Theological Seminary in Namibia. (A complete list of the Endowment Fund grant recipients is available on the Bethany website and on the counter outside the sanctuary!)
    Because Endowment Fund grants were not made in the past two years, the Council concluded that it was reasonable and appropriate (and consistent with the Endowment Committee’s rules of the road) to authorize awards at this level. (The Mission Endowment Fund has approximately $225,000, most of which is invested in the ELCA Foundation.) The Council also endorsed the Endowment Committee’s recommendation that recipients provide follow-up reports on how the funds were used, which information will be shared with the congregation to inform everyone how we live into our commitment to demonstrate “”Passion for God, Compassion for Others”. Stay tuned!! 

Bainbridge Pride Festival
Bethany has signed up for a booth at Bainbridge Pride on Saturday, June 20 Noon-8pm at Waterfront Park, 301 Shannon Dr. SE.
We are still awaiting final details from the organizers, but a few things are needed: 
Volunteers - If you would like to join Pastor Martin and others to represent Bethany, please sign up on the bulletin board. 
Awning- If you have a pop-up awning that we could borrow for the day, please let Pastor Martin know.
This is an important way to witness to our community our intentional inclusive welcome to all of God's children in Jesus' name.

Louise Urness Funeral Service
The Urness family has scheduled services for their Mother, Louise for June 27^th at 4pm here at Bethany Lutheran Church. All who knew and loved her are welcome.

Seattle PRIDE Parade
Members of the NWW Synod will be marching in the Seattle PRIDE parade on Sunday, June 28. We are limited to 200 people. If you are interested in taking part in this, please let Bethany’s office know.

Congratulations to Elizabeth "Allie" Paulson-Hauser
Allie Paulson-Houser is the winner of the Bob Satterwhite Memorial Scholarship for 2026! 
This honor is presented each year to a graduating high school senior who is a member of a faith community which belongs to the Interfaith Council of Bainbridge Island-North Kitsap/IFC-BINK. 
Allie was nominated for the award by Kathy Dudgeon of Bethany Lutheran Church, where Allie is an active member. Kathy describes Allie as a "thoughtful and curious individual who is deeply committed to her faith...(she) has demonstrated academic excellence while successfully balancing a demanding schedule of coursework and athletics." Allie fully meets the criteria for the IFC-BINK scholarship through her commitment to the spirit and purposes of IFC-BINK. She especially personifies this goal: To "work for dignity, justice and opportunity for all persons." 
Allie will receive her scholarship award on June 11, 7 p.m. at the Bainbridge High Awards Ceremony, to be held in the BHS Theater .

Allie is excited to join Bethany Preschool as the lead teacher for the Bumblebee class. She is starting in June and will be with us to wrap up the school year and then start again strong in the Fall! Allie is a certified teacher with 14 years of experience in education, working with a wide range of learners. She facilitates a play-based toddler program at a children’s museum that emphasizes learning through play, movement, and music. We are so excited to have her join our program!

We will be gathering at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lynnwood & the new Lynnwood Neighborhood Center. We will center our time in worship at 9am with song, communion, preaching by Bishop Shelley, and gratitude and blessing for our Synod VP Kay Edgerton who will be concluding her term this summer. We will welcome our keynote presenter, Rev. Tim Brown, ELCA director for congregational stewardship.

COBI Planning Commission Approves Finch Green Affordable Housing Development &
Public Hearing Set for May 19 at 1:00 PM!!
On Thursday, April 30, the Planning Commission of the City of Bainbridge Island endorsed the Finch Green affordable housing project, consisting of 22 units of affordable housing on the property of Bethany Lutheran Church! This means that the next step in the permitting process will be a public hearing before a Hearing Examiner now scheduled for Tuesday May 19 at 1:00 PM via Zoom! Stay tuned for more information regarding the upcoming hearing and next steps as the permitting process moves forward!!

Men’s Retreat

On Thursday, April 30, the Planning Commission of the City of Bainbridge Island endorsed the Finch Green affordable housing project, consisting of 22 units of affordable housing on the property of Bethany Lutheran Church! This means that the next step in the permitting process will be a public hearing before a Hearing Examiner now scheduled for Tuesday May 19 at 1:00 PM via Zoom! Stay tuned for more information regarding the upcoming hearing and next steps as the permitting process moves forward!!

We will welcome our keynote presenter, Rev. Tim Brown, ELCA director for congregational stewardship.

Estate Planning Presentation/Discussion
After worship Today, the Bethany Endowment Committee will introduce Bainbridge Island attorney Hayes Gori who will provide a brief presentation and answer questions on essential elements of an estate plan and when/how often it needs to be reviewed!  And, you also can learn about and consider how an estate plan can reflect your Passion for God, Compassion for Others!   Everyone is welcome!!

Rachel Circle Quilt Update
The Rachel Circle is sending 81 quilts, 25 personal care kits, 7 fabric kits,  and 50 baby care kits to Lutheran World Relief this week.  The group has been busy the last two weeks placing the quilts on the pews, putting together baby kits, and packing boxes. We appreciate the much needed donations for shipping.  Many thanks to Joe and Linda Sommerseth for taking our boxes to Our Redeemers Lutheran in Seattle, and to Stan Weigman for helping Joe load the truck.

Womens Book & Bible Study

Blessing of the Quilts Sunday!
This Sunday we will be blessing the quilts and kits that we send to Lutheran World Relief. In preparation for sending them off, Rachel Circle is asking for donations to help with shipping costs. The cost for delivering our donations overseas ranges from $1.80 for fabric kits to $3.10 for baby kits. You can find an envelope in your bulletin or on the table in the narthex. If you wish to write a check, please indicate Rachel Circle or shipping on it. Any amount is welcome.

Adult Forum - Estate Planning +YOU=Passion for God, Compassion for Others!!
In addition to overseeing Bethany’s grant program, the Endowment Fund Committee also initiates educational opportunities. One component of stewardship education is estate planning!  With this in mind, the Endowment Fund Committee has arranged for Bainbridge Island attorney Hayes Gori to make a presentation on Sunday, May 3 following worship on the importance of estate planning.  Besides helping families navigate difficult waters after a person’s death, estate planning also provides a unique opportunity to support organizations and ministries that were important in a person’s life! In a very real sense, it can mean demonstrating the truth of Bethany’s calling: “Passion for God, Compassion for Others!”

Amabile Concerts Friday 24th & Saturday 25th!
You are invited to the Amabile Choir Spring Concerts, Songs of Love, Loss & Connection, at Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church on Friday, April 24th at 7 PM, Saturday, April 25th at 3 PM and 7 PM. We will be joined by the Sakai Choir for the Saturday afternoon concert and by KIC, Kids in Concert, for our evening performances. The Bethany Mission Endowment Fund Campaign is Underway!
The Bethany Mission Endowment Fund Campaign is now underway and applications for grants are invited! Application forms and other information are available on the table outside the sanctuary. And, the Endowment Fund Committee has now met and determined that more than $17,000 is available for grants this year. The season for making an application will remain open until Pentecost (May 24), and the expectation is that grants will be made before school is out in June.  Give some serious thought and prayerful consideration to how we can live into our congregation’s mantra to show compassion for others – on Bainbridge Island and beyond!!

We are looking forward to Saturday evening with those who have signed up to attend as team members or characters.  Please bring a salad/appetizer or a dessert.  Please make desserts that can be placed on a napkin as the kitchen crew would like to cut down on clean up time at the end. There will be a prize for the best 70's era costume. Rachels Circle – Help Needed Sunday
Rachels Circle would like to request some help after the service today.  They need the boxes of items for the baby kits brought up from the basement so the kits can be put together on Tuesday, April 21.  Please see Marlene Orwiler if you are able to help.  The quilts and kits will be blessed next Sunday.  The Rachel Circle thanks you for your help, both with moving boxes and donations for shipping.
