Good morning,
Work replacing the failing cedar shakes on the sanctuary roof with a durable metal roof now is largely complete. Roofers today and Tuesday shifted their focus to doing the same work on the steeple tower. That's a lot of intricate cut-work on the metal. I asked the guys this morning if this was more difficult. They're kind of a quiet squad of workers, but they admitted they've done it many times before.
Meanwhile, there's talk among church leaders of spiffing up the cross that sits atop the steeple tower, with sanding and paint. That work would necessitate a crane, most likely.
When you arrive and depart from the church today for Ash Wednesday services at noon and 7 p.m., please keep in mind that you are walking through a construction-work area. Be careful, and the roofers know you are coming.
