Bethany taking precautions against coronavirus

Dear Bethany Community,

COVID19, the “Coronavirus”, is on the minds of many in these days.  I know I consider this in making visits to care facilities, in preparing for gatherings like our mid-week Lenten soup suppers today, and even in my Preschool chapel message this morning that addressed how we share God’s love with one another in ways other than touching.

In our planning for gatherings such as our worship, we want you to be aware of the provisions we have put in place at Bethany.

+ In worship we will not be sharing the peace formally, but invite smiles and infectious singing.

+ For holy communion distribution we will use individual cups for the wine and grape juice.

+  For our offering, we will have offering plates in the front of the worship space where your offering may be deposited as you go to receive communion.

+ Staff is wiping down every exposed surface we can find with disinfectant (if you have extra at home, we invite you to bring it to Bethany in case we need additional).

See you at worship.

Group attends service for Pastor Paul's mother

Greetings,

Out front is a photo of part of the group of Bethanians who attended the funeral for Dorothy Diers, mother of Pastor Paul, on Saturday at St. Mark's by the Narrows Lutheran Church in Tacoma. I'm guessing about 150 people came, including Rick Jaech, bishop of the Southwestern Washington Synod, and Chris Boerger, former ELCA secretary and former bishop of the Northwest Washington Synod. The gathering was topped off by a meal of meat-filled pasties and salad, and an ice-cream social.
