Namibia team listens, develops priorities

Hi everyone,

I am back in the saddle here at Bethany after two weeks in Namibia, where my ELCA companion-relationship team connected with the Lutheran church bodies in the north and south, and with the German Lutheran church in Windhoek, as well as the Pacific Lutheran Church people in Namibia. Our goal was to listen to our official companions on how me might walk with them into the future. The next step is to formulize a proposed strategic plan, and then implement it, a part of which undoubtedly will be raising funds. Despite grinding poverty, the brand-new nation of Namibia is pretty well poised for the future.

43 baby kits, 94 quilts boxed for sending

Good morning,

Bethany Lutheran Church was a very busy place Tuesday when members of the quilting and baby-kit groups packed up items to send to Lutheran World Relief. The work took all day, and lots of boxes, tape and muscle power. At the end, 47 baby kits and 94 quilts were stacked waiting in the narthex. From here, they will be trucked to a distribution point in Seattle, then shipped to LWF headquarters in Baltimore, where they will be sent around the world, used not only on beds, but as walls, floors and ceilings.
