September 9 Announcements

Here is what is happening this week and beyond at Bethany:

Worship at Bethany: For the remainder of September, Bethany will continue outdoor worship at 10am on Sunday mornings, gathering between the buildings in the shaded patio area. Coffee fellowship will follow the service. On Sunday mornings when the weather is threatening, an all-church announcement will be sent out by 9am, likely relocating the worship to our sanctuary where all worshippers will practice mask-wearing and physical distancing protocols during worship. Saturday evenings, beginning this Saturday, Bethany will conduct worship services at 5pm in our sanctuary. We ask that all eligible adults be vaccinated, and everyone will wear masks and practice physical distancing during the worship service. Wine and cheese fellowship will follow the service in the Fellowship Hall.

Just for Children: A new school year has begun! And while we will wait to reintroduce Sunday School, we welcome children in worship. Pastor Paul will have a special children’s time whenever children are present at either the Saturday evening or Sunday morning worship service. He also will have a weekly message just for kids posted on the website each Thursday. Check out the first one of the program year by visiting our website: bethanyofbainbridge.org

Bible Study groups: There will be a pop-up Men’s Bible Study meeting on Thursday, September 16 at 8am. The Women’s Bible Study group will meet Monday, September 20 at 9:30am. This first meeting will be on ZOOM. Beginning in October the group will meet on the second Monday of each month. The study focus for the Women’s Bible Study group this year will be the book Universal Christ by Richard Rohr. If you have questions, call Sonja Selboe: 360-297-1779 (H) or 360-979-7985 (C).

BI/NK CROP Walk: Bainbridge is gearing up for our Sunday, September 26th walk. Bethany youth will help to set the route, and Bethanians are invited to walk/sponsor walkers for this effort to combat hunger locally and globally. 25% of the money raised goes to support Helpline and Fishline. This year every dollar will be matched by an island donor TWO-FOR-ONE, meaning if you contribute $100, the donor will match it with $200, making the total $300!!! Go online to sign up to walk or sponsor walkers at https://events.crophungerwalk.org/2021/event/bainbridgeislandwa. Questions? Ask Pastor Paul.

Flower Openings Available: If you have a special date that you would love to honor with flowers, please select one of the ten Sundays available in Oct., Nov., or Dec. Sign up on the flower chart on the bulletin board by the kitchen. Please select either "A" [you bring the flowers] or "B" [you submit a check and the flower committee makes the floral arrangement.] For questions contact Gail Christensen at 206.842.5469.

A “Noisy” Offering: Mark your calendars now for Sunday, October 10th. There will be collection during Sunday morning worship to benefit the ELCA Hunger Appeal. Come with noisy pockets - quarters, dimes, nickels, pennies. Change is good!

Endowment Fund Applications: The Bethany Mission Endowment Fund was created to support and expand the mission and ministry of Bethany Lutheran Church in ways not possible using the annual operating budget. The application period for a Bethany Endowment Fund grant begins September 1 and ends October 15. Click here to download the application or visit the website for more details.

Baby Care Kits:  If you have items for the kits you collected over the summer, please bring them to church and put them in the box by the office window. Marlene Orwiler will inventory the items soon and let everyone know what is needed. We do need diapers so please contact Marlene if you are willing to cut some: or 206.683.5452.

Altar Flowers:  The altar flowers are given this week by Linnea Chu in honor of Franklin’s birthday.
