September 19 Announcements
Worship and Adult Forum on September 29
On Sunday, September 29, we welcome Rev. Lisa Kipp from Lutheran World Relief (LWR). She will be preaching at the 10:00am service and speaking about LWR during an Adult Forum. Rev. Kipp serves as the Director of Congregational Engagement at Lutheran World Relief. In her role, she leads a team that connects congregations across the United States with LWR’s work of bringing lifesaving aid and long-term hope to our most vulnerable neighbors around the world. As part of this work, she also oversees Lutheran World Relief’s Quilt and Kit Ministry, a program that has been a part of the fabric of thousands of Lutheran congregations for over 75 years. Prior to this role, Rev. Kipp served an ELCA congregation in Rochester, MN, for nearly twenty years. She continues to live in Rochester with her husband and three sons. We encourage everyone to come and welcome Rev. Kipp.
About Lutheran World Relief
Affirming God’s love for all people, Lutheran World Relief (LWR) works with Lutherans and partners around the world to end poverty, injustice and human suffering. Founded by Lutherans in the United States at the end of World War II, LWR tackles global poverty by helping people adapt to the challenges that threaten their livelihoods and well-being. They provide aid in emergencies and help families restore their lives. They partner with local leaders to grow rural economies and build healthy communities, breaking the cycle of poverty so our neighbors all around the world can thrive. Bethany is grateful to be able to support the work of LWR through benevolence giving and the work of our Rachel Circle. We will be blessing quilts and kits and the work of the Rachel Circle the weekend of October 28 & 29.
Faith Formation - Sunday School
Sunday School this week will be taught by Doug Olson (aka Mr. Science). Mr. Olson loves to connect the scriptures with science. Last week, the kids learned the Creation story. This week Mr. Olson will demonstrate to the children rainbow experiments, which will help prepare us for next week's lesson, Noah's Ark and God's promise. Children of all ages are welcome for a lesson, snacks, juice, and fun!
Faith Formation - Youth Group
Our first Youth Group of the season will meet on Sunday, September 22 from 3:00 pm-5:00pm at Casa Rojas in the Winslow Pavilion. We'll enjoy "tacos and talk" as we get to know each other a little better and discuss what's in store for the year ahead. Please let Pastor Erin know if you plan to attend so she can reserve a table in advance. Everyone is welcome, so feel free to bring a friend!
Pictorial Directory
Thank you to everyone who has gotten their photo taken for our new pictorial directory. Becci Kerstetter will be back to take more photos after worship this Sunday, September 22, and the following Sunday, September 29. She will also be available after the 5pm service on Saturday, October 5 for the folks that find that time more convenient. Becci will set up in the office area just past the narthex. We will also take the opportunity to verify contact information and whether you want your phone number and/or email address printed in the directory.
Blessing of the Animals
Everyone is welcome to bring their pets on Sunday, October 6 for a blessing in honor of the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, patron of the environment and animals. Pr. Erin will be here to bless your beloved pets from 3:00-4:00pm. There’ll be treat bags for dogs, cats, and people too!
CROP HUNGER DANCE
A quick reminder that the CROP Dance in support of Church World Services (CWS) takes place this Sunday, September 22, at Eagle Harbor Church. Come participate in fun, easy-to-learn dances and songs led by the Universal Dances of Peace group. No special talent or ability is necessary--just a willingness to have some fun with your neighbors while raising money for a good cause.
The dance will begin at 2:00 pm, with the registration table open at 1:30pm. You can also donate to team "Bethany Lutheran of Bainbridge" on the CWS website by clicking here and then selecting "Join or Start a Team." Under Find an Existing Team, type "Bethany Lutheran of Bainbridge" and click on it. The resources on the website are helpful and easy-to-use. Feel free to reach out to Pastor Erin for assistance. Let's set a goal to raise $5000. Can we do it? Yes we can! GO TEAM BETHANY LUTHERAN OF BAINBRIDGE!
