September 16 Announcements

Here is what is happening this week and beyond at Bethany:

BI/NK CROP Walk: The CROP walk is next Sunday, September 26th! Pastor Paul invites everyone, and especially families with children to walk with him and support this effort to combat hunger locally and globally. 25% of the money raised goes to support Helpline and Fishline. This year every dollar will be matched by an island donor TWO-FOR-ONE, meaning if you contribute $100, the donor will match it with $200, making the total $300!!! To sign up to walk or sponsor walkers visit https://events.crophungerwalk.org/2021/event/bainbridgeislandwa. Questions? Ask Pastor Paul.

Worship at Bethany: For the remainder of September, Bethany will continue outdoor worship at 10am on Sunday mornings, gathering between the buildings in the shaded patio area. Coffee fellowship will follow the service. On Sunday mornings when the weather is threatening, an all-church announcement will be sent out by 9am, likely relocating the worship to our sanctuary. The 87.9FM channel will still be available on Sunday mornings for those who prefer to experience worship in their car. The Saturday evening 5pm worship services will take place in the sanctuary. Wine and cheese fellowship will follow the service in the Fellowship Hall. We ask that all eligible adults be vaccinated, and everyone will wear masks and practice physical distancing for inside worship services and activities other than fellowship hours.

Children at Bethany: Pastor Paul will have a special children’s time whenever children are present at either the Saturday evening or Sunday morning worship service. Details on additional programming for children this fall will be coming soon. And check out Pastor Paul’s new weekly message for the kids posted on the website: bethanyofbainbridge.org.

Bethany Choir: The Bethany Choir will rehearse every Wednesday, 7:00-7:45pm in the Fellowship Hall. The choir welcomes new members! Contact Sylvia Cauter with questions.

A “Noisy” Offering: Mark your calendars now for Sunday, October 10th. There will be a collection during Sunday morning worship to benefit the ELCA Hunger Appeal. Pastor Paul also invites everyone, especially families with children, to plan on a walk after worship to Helpline House. Come with noisy pockets - quarters, dimes, nickels, pennies. Change is good!

Bible Study groups: The Women’s Bible Study group will meet Monday, September 20 at 9:30am. This first meeting will be on ZOOM. Beginning in October the group will meet on the second Monday of each month. The study focus for the Women’s Bible Study group this year will be the book Universal Christ by Richard Rohr. If you have questions, call Sonja Selboe: 360-297-1779 (H) or 360-979-7985 (C). The Men’s Bible Study will now meet on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 8am, beginning September 28.

Endowment Fund Applications: The Bethany Mission Endowment Fund was created to support and expand the mission and ministry of Bethany Lutheran Church in ways not possible using the annual operating budget. The application period for a Bethany Endowment Fund grant begins September 1 and ends October 15. Click here to download the application or visit the website for more details.

Flower Openings Available: If you have a special date that you would love to honor with flowers, please select one of the ten Sundays available in Oct., Nov., or Dec. Sign up on the flower chart on the bulletin board by the kitchen. Please select either "A" [you bring the flowers] or "B" [you submit a check and the flower committee makes the floral arrangement.] For questions contact Gail Christensen at 206.842.5469.

Altar Flowers:  The altar flowers are given this week by Dave and Gail Christensen in honor of their 61st wedding anniversary.
