October 26 Announcements
Faith Formation: This week in Sunday school we'll be learning about the rich young ruler who asked Jesus how he could have eternal life. The answer was a hard one for him, just as God's desire for us is sometimes challenging. We'll imagine together how we can give a little deeper in various ways and how we can be forgiving of ourselves when we miss the mark. Join us for the fun in the education building where we'll have a visit, have a snack, and of course, have a lot of fun! Children are invited to join the Sunday school teacher who will walk with them to the education building after the children's message in worship.
Our Adult Education Forum continues with the second of a two part discussion on the book, Live Worth Living: A Guide to What Matters Most, by Miroslav Volf et al. There's no need to read the book to participate in the discussion, but there are copies available at Eagle Harbor Books, where we've established a Bethany Book Group. If you mention it, you'll get a discount on the book--and the feel-good endorphin rush about supporting a local bookseller. Join us for conversation about big questions, like what makes a good life? No matter one's age or season in life, there's a lot to say about this topic, and a lot of learning we can do by hearing one another's perspectives. We meet in the sanctuary after worship.
Reformation Sunday & Blessing the Quilts: Be sure to wear red this weekend as we celebrate Reformation Sunday. We will also be blessing the quilts, baby kits and school supply kits made by the Rachel Circle. You can support the wonderful work of the Rachel Circle by making a donation towards the shipping of the quilts. Look for a donation envelope in your bulletin.
Bethany Nursery: Nursery care is available! If you're interested in having your children in the nursery throughout the entirety of the worship service, please bring them to the education building, upper level, before the service begins. Otherwise, they are welcome to come when the children go to Sunday school after the children's message in worship. When dropping off children, please make sure that you've filled out a registration form (available by asking nursery attendants or Sunday school teachers when you drop kiddos off).
Bethany Variety Show: Come next Saturday for "The Better Than Average (?) Variety Show”, November 4 at Bethany. Beverages--wine and non-alcoholic options--and light hors d'oeuvres at 6:00pm. Show starts at 7:00pm. We hope to raise funds to benefit World Central Kitchen. Their mission is to serve chef-prepared meals to communities who have been impacted by natural disasters and during humanitarian crises. Brian Stoll, who works for World Central Kitchen, will be with us to talk about the organization before the show. (https://wck.org for more information) There is a suggested donation of $15 cash or check. Checks should be made out to Bethany Lutheran Church with WCK Fundraiser in the memo field. Come see your Bethany friends and people from the community at large entertain with music, skits, dance, and poetry!
Variety Show Set Up: Can you help with setting up for the Variety Show? There are a couple of opportunities to support this fun effort. Set up in the sanctuary will happen on Friday, November 3 at 5:30pm. The team will also need a little help setting up the refreshments on Saturday, November 4 at 4:30pm, and then again in the hour or so before the show starts. Many hands make light work!
All Saints: Next weekend, November 4 & 5, we will be celebrating All Saints. This is a special time to remember and honor those we love who have gone before us. During both the Saturday evening and Sunday morning services, there will be an opportunity to light candles in remembrance of those you love and see no more.
Save the Date!!: Following worship next Sunday, November 5, join consultant Jonathan Davis and see what an affordable housing community on Bethany’s property could look like! Jonathan’s taken input from the October 8 gathering and developed a number of options to show potential layouts of a Finch Green village! Here’s your opportunity to provide comments and receive an update regarding important recent developments!!
November Impact Gathering: Mark your calendars for our next Impact Gathering on Sunday, Nov. 12 from 4:00-5:30pm in the Fellowship Hall. Being the "official" season of Thanksgiving, we'll be doing a "Bring-Your-Favorite-Thanksgiving-Side-Dish" potluck (no turkey, just sides and desserts). We also invite you to bring a donation of a non-perishable food item to contribute to the food bank. Join us for a festive gathering when we will give thanks, break bread, pray, and offer ourselves as the hands and feet of Christ in the world.
Join the Altar Guild Flower Team: Enjoy fiddling with flowers? Do you love the fun and creativity of putting together flowers into arrangements? If so, you are invited to put together arrangements for worship, placed each week at the right of the altar. Depending on your schedule, you can do this a couple of times a year, for special occasions or on a more regular basis. Expenses reimbursed. For questions or to volunteer, contact Altar Guild member Rachel Pritchett at (206) 498-0920 or .
