March 6 Announcements
The Season of Lent at Bethany
The theme of our Lenten season is All We Need ©. Using the Revised Common Lectionary readings, we’ll explore what this season’s scripture selections reveal about our needs both personally and communally. As in years past, an interactive prayer wall will be built along the north wall of the sanctuary for your use throughout Lent. Each week of Lent, there will be copies on the table in the Narthex of a Lenten devotional based on the theme, including scripture and reflective reading plus a prayer and a practice you can take up for the week. Although we will not have a mid-week Wednesday service this year, the sanctuary will be open throughout the week during office hours for quiet reflection and prayer. You may wish to use your weekly devotional as inspiration during your time at the prayer wall.
Bible Study in March
The Women’s Book and Bible Study group will meet on Monday, March 10 at 9:30am. The combined Men’s and Women’s Bible Study will have the third and last of its three-month series on exploring the Word of God as it appears in liturgy. All are welcome even if you were not able to attend the January or February session. All Bible study groups meet in fellowship hall.
Youth Group
Students in grades 7-12, please join us for a special youth group gathering on Sunday, March 23 from 3:00-5:00pm in Fellowship Hall. We'll be doing a little bit of bible study, checking in with each other, and making some future plans. Come for fun, spiritual fulfillment, and PIZZA! Questions? Contact Pastor Erin at
Mystery Dinner Was a Big Hit!
Thanks to all who attended the "High Seas Mystery Dinner" on March 1. People came in time period dress, brought delicious food and worked hard to solve the case. Two teams identified the culprit, Suz Spicious, played by Becci Kerstatter who was quite surprised to learn of her guilt. Successful detectives were: Doug Love, Rachel Running, Tom & LuAnne Croker, Vicki Browning, Alexa Tweten, Sylvia Cauter and Steve Chupik. Best Costume was awarded to Sonja Selboe in full "Flapper" attire including a full length (fake) fur coat. McKenna Lang took Best Actor playing an aspiring singer who brought her own accompaniment. Jeff Jensen and Mike Curtis, with guest vocalists Doug Dudgeon and Jeff Sievertson, provided the musical backdrop. In addition to having a great time, participants made a generous donation to Global Refuge to help support our neighbors internationally in these difficult times. A huge thank you to the set-up, clean up and kitchen crew who are always there to make these events possible. And a special thank you to Kathy Dudgeon who made the beautiful poster for narthex.
Men’s Retreat
The Bethany Men are starting up our annual men’s retreat again this Spring. The retreat will take place at Ramblewood Environmental Center located at Sequim Bay State Park May 2-4th, a 52 minute drive from Bainbridge Island. More information, including cost, and a sign-up sheet are available on the hallway bulletin. We encourage all men of all ages to sign up and join in the fellowship and fun.
Living Lutheran Magazine
For those of you that requested a print edition subscription to the quarterly Living Lutheran magazine, they have had to change their fulfillment center and this will delay their ability to process print edition subscriptions. They hope to have the system in place by the summer edition. Watch the announcements for any future updates.
A Day of Reflection and Renewal
Rolling Bay Presbyterian invites everyone to join them in A Day of Reflection and Renewal on Saturday, March 8 from 9am to 2pm. Mindfulness practices come with all kinds of benefits to our brains, our bodies and our spirits. Lori Glover, LICSW, LMHC will lead in examining how mindfulness can help manage stress, bring clarity to decisions, increase our awareness of God’s presence in our lives and help us better hear God’s voice. The event is free, with coffee, breakfast treats, and lunch provided. For more information and to register, call Laura Alonso at 206-697-2451.
